| 1626 | Devastated, Maxine visits Florence and studies with Bernini, she gains fame and fortune |
| 1628 | Marries Palermo, famous assistant of Frans Hals, moves to Utrecht |
| 1629-35 | Living extravagantly, Maxine and her new husband travel throughout the Continent; exhibiting artwork. |
| 1636 | Bankruptcy; sale of house and auctions off all household property. Palermo dies. Maxine takes the first boat to Mexico with the wealthy brother of Diego Velazquez |
| 1650 | Visiting Cozumel, the island of the sparrows off the coast of the Yucatan--she is kidnapped by a Mayan priest and brought to Chichen-Itza by horseback to celebrate the equinox of the sun. During the equinox, as the undulating shadow of the serpent sweeps the steps of the pyramid, Maxine disappears into the darkness. |
| 1961 | A body is discovered surrounded by murky shadows in Tomb 7 at Monte Alban, Oaxaca. Alberto Ruz LHuiller, an archeology student from New York University cuts through the mist with his Leicas flash. As the shadows begin to disappear, a handsome man appears before Alberto. Dusts himself off, and introduces himself as Max Du Voir. |
