A Brief History of Max Du Voir
1610Born in Constantinople, Turkey daughter of a wealthy greek clothing merchant.
1620-25Studies art in Italy, Rome, Greece, Antwerp, Madrid.
1626Returns to Constantinople to marry her betrothed and learns he married another woman.
1626Devastated, Maxine visits Florence and studies with Bernini, she gains fame and fortune
1628Marries Palermo, famous assistant of Frans Hals, moves to Utrecht
1629-35Living extravagantly, Maxine and her new husband travel throughout the Continent; exhibiting artwork.
1636Bankruptcy; sale of house and auctions off all household property. Palermo dies. Maxine takes the first boat to Mexico with the wealthy brother of Diego Velazquez
1650Visiting Cozumel, the island of the sparrows off the coast of the Yucatan--she is kidnapped by a Mayan priest and brought to Chichen-Itza by horseback to celebrate the equinox of the sun. During the equinox, as the undulating shadow of the serpent sweeps the steps of the pyramid, Maxine disappears into the darkness.
1961A body is discovered surrounded by murky shadows in Tomb 7 at Monte Alban, Oaxaca. Alberto Ruz L’Huiller, an archeology student from New York University cuts through the mist with his Leica’s flash. As the shadows begin to disappear, a handsome man appears before Alberto. Dusts himself off, and introduces himself as Max Du Voir.
