Born in Palermo, Sicily in 1955 Salvatore came to Queens with his brothers when he was
9 years old. He discovered his talent in photography at an early age when he submitted
photos to local newspapers and began winning photo journalism awards nationwide.
He attended photography school in Manhattan before getting his first assistants job at
VOGUE RITE STUDIOS. After a stint in fashion, Salvatore got an incredible break by
having NBC STUDIOS hire him as a black and white printer. For the next few years he
went from being a lab techinican to NBC STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER in the heyday of Saturday
Night Live in 1978.
In the late 70s he worked for the TOM SNYDER TOMORROW SHOW as a still photographer.
A few years passed and Bob Guccione Jr. hired him as the art director and still
photographer for a new Rock and Roll magazine he was launching called PENTHOUSE
POSTER PRESS. Salvatore traveled world-wide for the magazine on photo and film shoots.
Forming a production company he worked freelance the next several years. During that
time he collaborated with many other famous photographers, art directors, producers
and directors. His team produced and conceived publicity stills for the record labels
superstars such as David Bowie, KISS, Rod Stewart, Led Zepplin, Queen, Andy Warhol,
George Harrison, to mention a few. His work has been published in International
magazines and Television, books, album and CD covers and music videos.
Salvatores images combine the classic poses of Michaelangelos sculptures using
today's Rock and Roll icons. His talent and fame enabled him to capture the clandestine
culture of Rock and Roll onto film in controlled Studio Settings. His technical skill
combined with an incredible eye towards art direction and lighting elevate these Music
images to a new elegance never been seen before. Salvatore continues to live and
work in Manhattan with his daugher, Gia.
